Beautiful Feet

"Beautiful Feet" Anklet by Gina Hurst

How then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them? And how can they preach unless they are sent. As it is written (Isa 52:7) "How beautiful are the feet of those who bring the GOOD NEWS!" Romans 10: 14-15

I am an artist from Cullman, AL.  I was raised by a professional artist and a professional musician, so art has been my life.  My family had a strong faith in God, a joy that they passed on to me along with music and art.  I run Shop Around the Corner, a gallery and working studio in Cullman, AL.  My mother, Pam Willingham, and I give art classes for children and adults at this shop, carry our fine art and local jewelry, and we have a pottery studio and teacher.  I enjoy teaching, but my dream is to illustrate books and do fine art full time.  I have illustrated 6 books so far, the life of Jesus and the book of Revelation were done for  the Discovering God's Way Bible Studies series, and God Glasses For Kids has recently been published.  I love to paint portraits and people, and to try to help people visualize events from the Bible.  My website is www.laurawillinghamwalker.com and my business face book page is Laura's Art.

There are endless passions we share as a couple. We love the Lord, each other, the outdoors, plants, trees, healthy eating, book stores, hot tea, antiques, animals, fabric, painting, building things, music, people, sewing… okay… maybe Chase doesn’t enjoy the sewing part ;)

We married on June 17, 2006, and have one little furry-four-legged “baby”, Snuggles. We are incredibly blessed to have each other, and are enjoying spending the rest of our life with our best friend and soul mate. We absolutely love using natural light to create beautiful imagery. Green Tree is dedicated to their clients, and show they care by using natural resources and fibers, and high quality products for you to LOVE and enjoy for a lifetime. Our heart is for you to cherish art that you can show your family today, and your children and grandchildren tomorrow.

We chose our business name from a verse in Jeremiah. Jeremiah 17:7-8 (English Standard Version) 7 "Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord, whose trust is the Lord. 8 He is like a tree planted by water, that sends out its roots by the stream, and does not fear when heat comes, for its leaves remain green, and is not anxious in the year of drought, for it does not cease to bear fruit." May your leaves always be green as you stay grounded in Christ!

In the past couple of years, I have expanded my portfolio to include mixed media and continue to experiment with different processes as well as painting with oils to create large, colorful pieces of work. Creativity, imagination and passion are present in my expansive portfolio.

The beauty of vertical spaces with hints of unexpected color is the driving force behind my mixed media works of art. I lay down layers of paint on tarpaper and then cuts back into the surface forming unexpected organic lines. Then I apply wax and rub it with an oil based glaze to create texture.

Whether is it the music that plays while I paint, the subject matter, or just the blessing of being able to enjoy the process of creating, I find that I am becoming more connected to my spirit through this artistic journey.

It’s exciting to watch the pieces come together as I am guided to new opportunities through both imagery and medium, to create spaces that are skewed vertically, yet visually believable. Whether a lone chair, a field of flowers, or an abstract face, vertical lines find their place in the composition. Through my artistic talents and imagination, I am able to fully express myself on the canvas.

I paint in my home studio in Decatur, Alabama.

One of my favorite Bible verses is: John 10:10 King James Version (KJV)
10The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.

As I struggle with the ups and downs of this hectic life, I easily become distracted and forget to appreciate the grace and goodness of God. As I paint in my studio I find myself enjoying the abundant life, enjoying the gift of making art. Whether a painting, or a song, or a new recipe, our lives are blessed because we are made to be creative! Be encouraged to create and enjoy the abundant life the God has for you!
