Heavenly Babies: Photographers capture brief life of infants

Heavenly Babies: Photographers capture brief life of infants

MADISON, AL - For the lifetime of his daughter, Joey Karr smiled into her eyes.

Then the infant, who couldn't overcome a fatal form of dwarfism, died in his wife's arms as their other three children patted their sister.

Photographer Kelly Clark Baugher caught that lifetime of love in photos now sacred with the weight of life and loss that the death of a baby brings.

Baugher is one of just four area professional photographers who volunteer their time at area hospitals to take beautiful pictures of heartbreakingly short-lived joy. She and photographer Mary Ellen Pollard, area coordinator, are part of the nationwide network of Now I Lay Me Down to Sleep, a nonprofit organization based in Colorado that sends professional photographers, if the families request them, to quietly record their child's brief life.

Art news from Ascribing Artist Anne Hamilton: [http://womenofgodartretreat.net]

The Grande O'l Lady is the new name I have given to the 1890's historical Victorian Home of which I am the caretaker - and it is only through the grace of God that I am able to do this. Living in the house has been a spiritual adventure, not only through the arts, but also through the guests who have spent time here. Many of these have been artists. This past week, during an art show held here by the Northeast Alabama Art Council, I was fortunate to play hostess to 11 artists who exhibited their works here. It was a success for the artists as well as those attending. Most of all, it inspired me to continue my journey with God in discovering how to better serve Him and others as the caretaker of this lovely old home. One of the things I have done as a result of this is to redesign my web site. To see the changes please visit

New Portrait by Betty Burchfield

"Jesus as I see him" by Betty Burchfield, copyright

I have just finished painting this portrait of our Lord Jesus as I see him. The description which was found many years ago describes him to have blue eyes and chestnut hair.

So many pictures portray him as dark hair and brown eyes.

Refreshing, isn't it, to see him as my painting portrays him.

As I painted this picture, I said over and over "YOU ARE SO BEAUTIFUL, JESUS"
Such a close bond one seems to have when they are painting and it was just as He was sitting there and posing for me.

ISN'T HE GREAT!!!

"Jesus Loves Me" Portraits by Betty Burchfield

Original Photo of artist's son.

"Jesus Loves Davy" by Betty Burchfield, copyright

I have been painting a series of "Jesus Loves Me" pictures whereby I put someone's child in Jesus' lap.

This is a visual painting for the child to see how much Jesus loves them. In this painting, however; the child you see sitting in His lap is now 42 yrs. old.

It looks like Jesus is tickling Davy in the tummy and making him laugh. I changed the eyes of the little one to look up at Jesus and tilted his body back a little. This one makes me smile.

These paintings "Jesus Loves Me" are for commission only. If you'd like for me to put your child in Jesus' lap, go to my website at http://www.treasuredreflections.net for prices.

Mary "Kitty" Weeks
When she was only two years old, Mary N. Weeks (also known as Kitty) was diagnosed with lazy eye. As one one of the ways to work through this problem, her mother would have her play in paints as a sort of therapy. Little did they know that the therapy would turn out to be more of a therapy for her soul. Ever since her toddler days, Mary has had paint under her fingernails, and thankfully she is sharing with the rest of us.
She studied fine arts with emphasis in painting and drawing at University of North Alabama, and graduated with a degree in communication graphics in the mid-80's. After having an uninspired day at her easel in 1989, She came to Victor's place to unwind. That was where she met her future hunsband, Rob, and they married that same yaer. In 1995 their twin daughters, Tori and Sarah, were born.
She describes her artwork with this simple phrase- Beyond the Boundaries. It came from that fact that she could never stay in lines when coloring. Now it is evident in her body of work and all aspects of her life. The last thing one could do to her is put one specific label on her or her art, and that is a most fabulous thing. When asked why she signs her work "M.N. Weeks" and not "Kitty", she will tell you that is who God knows.
Isaiah 43:1- But now, this is what the LORD says-
He who created you, O Jacob,
He who formed you, O Isreal:
"Fear not, for I have redeemed you;
I have summoned you by name; you are mine.

Event: 54th Annual St. James Court Art Show

Date: October 1, 2 & 3, 2010

Time: 10:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. Friday & Saturday, 10:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Sunday

Place: Louisville, Kentucky

Judy Bobula will be exhibiting in the 54th Annual St. James Court Art Show. Judy will join over 700 artists from throughout the United States to exhibit and sell her mixed media paintings at the event. The Saint James Court Art Show is set outdoors in the heart of Old Louisville’s Victorian-era district in Louisville, Kentucky. This year it will be held October 1, 2 & 3.

The Art Show was named the number one fine art and craft show in the country by Sunshine Artist in their “200 Best” issue. It is also ranked in the Top Ten Fall Events in Kentucky by the Kentucky Tourism Council, and is one of the Top 20 Events in the southeast according to the Southeast Tourism Society.

Judy comments that she is constantly looking for found items to add to her art. "Some people would call me a dumpster diver. While I have a general idea of where I am going, I mainly works intuitively and add the found items as I go along. Sometimes I am half way through a painting and find it isn't working. All is not lost. I have learned something and the piece can eventually be used somewhere else."
