Focus on Faith: Paint 4 Jesus

Focus on Faith: Paint 4 Jesus

Visiting nursing homes, volunteering at shelters, and working on community service projects are all common ministries for church youth groups. However, at one Cullman County church, the students have found a unique way to spread the word. They call it Paint 4 Jesus.

The youth minister at Ebenezer Baptist Church in Vinemont says they got the idea after seeing Mike Lewis, also known as "The Jesus Painter," perform during a Christian conference in Pigeon Forge. Lewis uses his skills as a visual artist to inspire others.

That's exactly what happened in the case of the Ebenezer Baptist group. Taylor Quick says, "It's not necessarily that we're just awesome artists. It's just that we are willing to try things to spread the word and just do the best we can."

Ascribing Artists is a creative ministry bringing together visual artists who desire to ascribe or attribute their work and life to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. The ministry is inspired by Psalm 29:2, "Ascribe to the LORD the glory due His name" and shows that we are to be "A Reflection of His Glory" in all that we do.

Not all Ascribing Artists paint religious themes or Biblical depictions. The subject matter of the artist is not necessarily what makes us Ascribing Artists, it is the heart behind the artist with the desire to share the gospel. We recognize that anything we do pales in comparison to the Glory of the Lord, so our desire is not to offer something that deserves praise, but to point to the only ONE worthy of praise.

Ascribing Artists Exhibit: All His Colors on display throughout the month of January, 2011.

"DEFENDER AMONG THEM"

I think three things inspired the conception of this painting.
First, of course I was wanting to portray a message about the fatherless and the motherless.
Second, were the techniques of some of the works of Gustav Klimt, the famous Austrian Symbolist painter of the late 1800’s and early 1900’s.
Third, was the Jesus figurine in my collection of nativities from around the world.
I began thinking about the timelessness of God. He has always been here. “ …He was and is and is to come.” “Jesus is the same yesterday, today and forever.” Revelations 4:8, Hebrew 13:8.
When these babies, these children, are abandoned, are rejected, and are hurt, He is there throughout their lives. Jesus is their Defender Among Them. He may not be noticed among them, but He is there. When they cry and hurt and are lonely, He is there.
He cries along with them, He hovers and protects them. He knows their name.
Each baby in the painting, has a word or phrase written in a native tongue of their country to portray the promises of the Defender.

Starting at the top of the painting, they are:
Chinese - I am chosen
American – I am loved
Hispanic – I am protected
Thai - I am safe
Swahili – I am known
Russian – I am wanted
Arabic – I am free
Hindi – I have hope
Jesus- Hebrew – I AM LIFE

“When they cry out to the Lord because of their oppression, /he will send them a Savior and Defender and He will rescue them. “ Isaiah 19:20

Thanks for your help!

Artist and chef duo spearhead new class at Lowe Mill

Friday, December 03, 2010,

HUNTSVILLE, AL. - Cuisine and canvas definitely seem like a peculiar dyad, but leave it up to a third-floor artist at Lowe Mill Arts and Entertainment to introduce a relatively new concept to the Rocket City where fine dining meets art.

You heard it right.

Artist Denise Onwere calls it “Palette to Palate,” a class taught at her Lowe Mill studio where visual art collides with fine cuisine prepared by chef Forest Wilson, a local culinary artist who is also a member of theAmerican Culinary Federation.
