Artist’s Statement
I am an Alabama artist, originally from Huntsville but now residing in the Auburn area, who grew up with an appreciation of art - specifically watercolor - because my family included several professional artists. I was surrounded by wonderful artwork in various media and was fascinated by the processes used to create those works.
I received a degree in graphic design at Auburn University, and I find great enjoyment in painting with watercolors. Currently I focus on local plants, animals, and landscapes, although I love to travel and paint. My style is mostly realistic, but I occasionally dabble with a looser technique.
Recently I’ve been using more ink lines in my watercolors, and I believe they help give my work more definition. I enjoy painting nature from life and love to have fresh flowers as inspiration, or to sit in a shady spot and paint the view before me. My greatest desire is to glorify God with my artwork, and I pray that by painting the beauty of His creation I am pointing viewers toward the Creator, and ultimately toward salvation through Christ.
The verse that has meant the most to me in the last few years is Philippians 4:6-7, as my family and I have gone through some trying times.
“Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
God has used those verses in my life to help me cling to Him, and to recognize that He truly does give the peace that passes all understanding when we present our concerns to him with an attitude of thanksgiving.
